So, with this upcoming release of Windows Vista and all the new fangled software that’s going to be promoted along with it, especially the new Windows Office 2007 and, get this, their exclusive document format. (Which will not be backward compatible (skip down to the 3rd paragraph) which is a pisser to say the least.) With this information available, I decided that it was time to let you my friends, family and other readers know about this kick butt office suite from Sun Microsystems. It’s OpenOffice.org and it is very comparable to Microsoft Office.

I have been using it 95% exclusively for roughly 2 years now and I am loving it. Check it out. One other thing I love about it is that there is a portable version of it available too. That means that you can carry it around with you on a thumb drive and use it on most any computer with a USB port. I would encourage anyone to play with it. You can save files in a variety of formats and it also reads quite a few different formats as well. It is one stunning piece of FREE software.
