That’s right folks, this movie absolutely lived up to its hype for me, and it was absolutely the best comic book movie I have ever seen.
Where to begin with such a movie. Well, let’s look at all the technical side of things: Direction – very well done…simple and effective. Nothing flashy, just simple story telling. There’s no style to it, and in my opinion that’s one of the best compliments one can pay a director (Spielberg, Howard, Scott [Ridley, not Tony], Singer…just to name a few). Story/Script – for a comic book it’s good. Sure, you have to suspend quite a bit of disbelief (it’s a comic book for pete’s sake), but when you do, you get to relish the sure joy of being in another world where men in armor suits can fly! Acting – it’s all good. Downey Jr. is fantastic as Tony Stark/Iron Man. All the bravado and machismo you could ask for and none of it “fake”, so-to-speak. And the other actors don’t take second place…sure they may be “supporting” actors, but I’ve always believed that no movie stands on it’s own based on the performance of the main actor/actress. The supporting characters/actors are vital to the success of the movie and this movie succeeds!
I don’t know that I can add much more to it than that. Those three main elements are key to any movie and they all measure up. I can’t recommend this movie enough. It’s fun. It’s quirky. It’s a must-see! If you haven’t seen it yet…Go now…Go silly…Go and see it!
