Fun but not my Indy.
I really think that Spielberg should have stepped out of this one, especially as director. It just didn’t have that Spielberg touch that we are used to.
This movie was way too long in the making and the story is by far the worst part of it. The script is fine; the dialogue is very typical Indy action movie and the actors pull it off fairly well, but the plot/story is way too far-fetched. Now, I’m a big fan of Indy and his wild adventures which were pretty far out there to begin with. This one though is just way too out there. I think Lucas was off his meds when he conned Ford and Spielberg into this one. Spielberg must have been off his meds too for that matter. I can’t really give you the plot line and what’s wrong with it without spoiling it for you so you’ll just have to believe me.
All in all though, it’s still a fun adventure movie. The only other criticism I have is for the special effects – hokey. And not the good kind of hokey either. I just hope it’s what they intended, because that’s how bad they were. Even if they were intentional there’s no excuse for them. I mean Lucas and Spielberg on a movie and the SFX suck?! What kind of bizarro world is this? Oh well.
See it if you want to. Fun action, sucky story, mediocre movie.
