Lots of people will possibly disagree with me on this, but this movie was a gem for me. I think both Giamatti and Vaughan were excellent – funny and sincere. This is an example of an oddly, but perfectly cast movie. Everyone in it was superb and subtle without simply going vacant and letting their name carry them through.
My beef with this movie though is the special effects (I always gotta find something, don’t I?!?). There is one character that just, every time they showed up I was taken completely out of the story. There had to be a better way to use that actor and that body double without compromising the suspension of disbelief. I can usually let semi-bad SFX slide, but this one, well, it took me out of the story every time. EVERY TIME. Not just some of the time. That’s why I couldn’t possibly ignore it this time.
But, that aside, I would still watch this again and laugh and enjoy it the same!
