Happening upon this beauty of a web app is something so enjoyable and refreshing. Harmony is a simple (in appearance only) drawing app done in HTML5 utilizing the canvas element. Mr. Doob is the creator of this wicked app. Check out his post on Harmony and his blog. You can also sample all his projects by going to his homepage and selecting from them at the top of the page.
One of my favorite futuristic racing games ever is the WipEoutseries for the Playstation. It combines wicked physics, awesome graphics and designs and, the thing I love most about it – the soundtrack!
Each installment has it’s own wicked soundtrack. Such awesome contributors as Fluke, Apollo440, Chemical Brothers, Future Sound Of London…I mean I could go on and on about the groups that are on the soundtracks. While looking for the CDs to buy online, I stumbled on this wicked free album featuring music inspired by the game its artists. Go head to G.A.M.E. now and download vol. 3 and enjoy the electronica goodness!
Once upon a time about, oh, I don’t know, say 15 or so years ago, I loved the yo-yo. And it wasn’t just me. There were a group of us in high school who loved the yo-yo. But, like all (or most anyway) high school fads, the desire to be a yo-yo champ fizzled fairly quickly.
Today, my son was whipping around this rubber mouse he has and it reminded me of those yo-yo days. So I offered to show him a video of some yo-yo’ing and when I typed in “yo-yo” on youtube, the video below was the first listing and I LOVE IT!
Wow. If only I had dedicated myself to this fad just a bit more then I could have been, well, no where near as good as this guy, but, well…nah. I wouldn’t have been that good even if I spent the past 15 years doing it. Why? I’m not coordinated enough or dedicated enough. But I am very glad to see guys like this! It’s amazing what you can do with a bit of string and a bit of plastic.
What an intelligent, engaging, thoughtful graphic novel series.
I was recently re-introduced to the graphic novel through the brilliance of The Watchmen. Since then I have read several really good novels and series, some I have reviewed and some I haven’t…yet.
Y: The Last Man has a lot going for it – compelling story idea, good, consistent artwork, good dialogue and interesting, sympathetic characters. The series is 10 “novels” long and actually has a (semi) believable ending that only left me marginally disappointed. Anyone in for a good, quick read should go to their local library and pick up this series.
Y: The Last Man is a good series, but not my favorite of the ones I have read so far. I save that nomination for ….. (stay tuned!)
Via Affirmativa is a really neat arts movement that I have been interested in for quite a while. They just released an introduction video that is quite good – both quality and what they have to say. Check it out, then check out their website (it’s quite sparse but just surf around, I’m sure you’ll find something interesting!).
I really enjoy the Internet Monk. He always has good ideas and really engages culture, faith and theology in interesting and honest ways. That’s why I have to share his article here on the creative arts and the Bible!
Please read it and then think. Especially if you are one who is even remotely creatively inclined. It’s a good, well thought out article.
Deyen has been aching for a good snowfall so that he could make a snowman (or a snow Santa, depending on what mood he’s in). The other night at our friends place, he had the chance with their daughter to enjoy the wonderful, wet, good packing snow. After a good build, his 3-year-old [...] […]
Momentarily funny things are what life with young kids is about. The chance that you catch one of these moments on tape is a treasure. Below is such a moment. Levi and Jenn were having fun after Deyen went to bed horse-playing on the bed. He would simply launch himself [...] […]
