I love moviemashups. So, I had to share this one which has easily become my second favorite of all time. My first being one of the Thundercats mashups that I posted about a while back.
I love me my XBMC! A buddy of mine helped me get things in order for this bad boy and we have loved it ever since. It is such an all around good media center that I can use to stream stuff from my computer. Well, it just got updated to 9.04 and I haven’t noticed a significant difference yet, but the upgrade process was so easy!
Now…time to get down and dirty with skinning, scripts and plugins!
It was our goal this year to at least match the amazing goodness of last year’s fantastic menu. The challenge was that last year’s was SO amazing and filling (we didn’t the next day until well after lunch time), that we knew it was going to be hard to match. So, try as we might, we couldn’t really think of anything. Then, the idea hit us…we love Battlestar Galactica, and we will be watching it that night, so why not theme it up!
After trying like crazy to find a BSG theme menu online and coming up empty (in all the searchable ‘verse, there is no Battlestar Galactica Menu – can you believe it? if anyone out there reads this and finds one – e-mail me please [e-mail addy is in "about"]), I started to broaden my search. That’s when I came upon this post: Sci-fi dinner party. I loved it! As soon as I saw it and read it through, I knew that we would be doing something similar. I passed the idea around our group and got a resounding, well, not exactly resounding, but a good “GO!” – at least from one other person. Jenn was a bit of a hold out but our buddy Josh was gangbusters for it. So, him being out of town until New Years Eve, and Jenn not in full support of it, it fell upon me to menu plan and the like.
Well, it was no small nor easy feat, let me tell ya. Before anything though, I would like to thank The Grumpy Frenchman for the ground-breaking work they did on their own Sci-Fi menu. If it wasn’t for them, I would not be regaling you with details of my own menu. Now, I used virtually all of his ideas and then added a couple other ones I found elsewhere on the interweb. So, without further ado, the menu from our New Years Bash! (note that I have included the tv show/movie/planet that each item is from. It’s not as fancy as The Grumpy Frenchman, who made stickers and all, but I am still quite proud of this. I will also include a link to the recipe for each item.)
Unfortunately, due to time, there were some items that I wanted to make, but was unable to: Klingon Gagh – Star Trek, Aunt Beru’s Blue Milk – Star Wars, Spice Beer – Dune, Slurm – Futurama (the previous three were in the Grumpy Frenchman post – so look there for the recipe), Looking Glass Plum Cake – Alice’s Adventures Through The Looking Glass, Lembas – Lord Of The Rings (I can’t think of the other ones at this point, but I think there may have been more).
The night was a hit! The most challenging item was the Pork Bao from Firefly.
It was adapted from a flesh worm recipe for a horror party and it is so easy to make. The only change I would make is to use steak instead of pork. If you get a nice 2lb slab of beef top sirloin, you can cut up the pieces appropriately and still get the desired effect.
I didn’t make everything. My lovely wife helped a HUGE amount (she makes a wicked recycled people snack and to-die-for Earth foods) and so did my buddy Josh who made the chocolate cake and the bachelor chow. Check out all the pictures of the night below.
The whole evening was amazing and, if anyone out there has a BSG menu, please e-mail me! I would love to have it.
As usual, I found this gem on TheMovieBlog.com and HAD to share this. The Thundercats is probably the one cartoon from my childhood that I remember more than any other (runners-up include Transformers, Silverhawks, Visionaries and GI Joe). And so, when I saw this, I just about wet myself with excitement. Unfortunately there is no legitimacy to this trailer…it’s simply a fans fantastic mashup trailer. I would watch this movie! Even with the cast below!
Monty Python is perhaps one of the most brilliant comic teams in the world to this day. There were some in the past, Abbott & Costello, Laurel & Hardy, The Three Stooges, The Marx Brothers, and even those still hold much in comedic entertainment, there has been nothing to touch Monty Python’s brilliance in the past 30 years. And so, I am proud to announce that they now have their own Youtube Channel!
Hey folks! As per my last post, I was in a music video. I posted the link to it on mtv.com but I just found it on youtube! Check out the goodness below and feel free to comment on it or fav it on youtube.
Some awesome news for ya’ll, especially those into the independent, alt-rock scene. The group The Dears have recently released their 5th album, Missiles. The video for their first single from it Money Babies is now up on mtv.ca. You can go directly to it at the link below:
(you can also find the director’s cut of it here: http://www.antonjosef.com/work.html. Just navigate to music videos and click on the only one there. Check out his other stuff too, it’s fun!)
See anyone familiar in it? You just might…….ME! That’s right. About a month ago, I got an e-mail from a friend of mine informing me of a call for actors for a music video. I got the role of “the thief” who steals hope from Hope Girl. The process was a blast – long but a blast nonetheless (two days of shooting, one 18 hours, the other 13).
Enjoy the vid. I personally like both equally and the lyrics and music are awesome!
Deyen has been aching for a good snowfall so that he could make a snowman (or a snow Santa, depending on what mood he’s in). The other night at our friends place, he had the chance with their daughter to enjoy the wonderful, wet, good packing snow. After a good build, his 3-year-old [...] […]
Momentarily funny things are what life with young kids is about. The chance that you catch one of these moments on tape is a treasure. Below is such a moment. Levi and Jenn were having fun after Deyen went to bed horse-playing on the bed. He would simply launch himself [...] […]
